چکیده

Forecast horizons are de ned as long enough planning horizons that ensure agreement of rst period optimal production decisions of nite and in nite horizon problems regardless of changes in future demand. In this paper, we prove forecast horizon existence and provide computational procedures for production planning problems that satisfy the following monotonicity property: for any xed nite planning horizon, there exist rst period optimal solutions that are monotone with respect to monotone changes in stochastic demand. c © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. A stochastic programming approach for planning horizons of infinite horizon capacity planning problems

Planning horizon is a key issue in production planning. Different from previous approaches based on Markov Decision Processes, we study the planning horizon of capacity planning problems within the framework of stochastic programming. We first consider an infinite horizon stochastic capacity planning model involving a single resource, linear cost structure, and discrete distributions for genera...

Solving Nonstationary Infinite Horizon Dynamic Optimization Problems∗

Monotonicity of optimal solutions to finite horizon dynamic optimization problems is used to prove the existence of a forecast horizon, i.e a long enough planning horizon that ensures that a first period optimal action for the infinite horizon and the finite horizon problem agree, regardless of problem parameter changes in the tail. The existence of extremal monotone optimal solutions motivates...

Forecast Horizons for Production Planning with Stochastic Demand

Forecast horizons, i.e long enough planning horizons that ensure agreement of first period optimal production decisions of finite and infinite horizon problems regardless of changes in future demand, are shown to exist in the context of production planning under stochastic demand. The monotonicity of first period optimal production decisions with respect to first order stochastic shifts in dema...

Solving infinite horizon optimal control problems of nonlinear interconnected large-scale dynamic systems via a Haar wavelet collocation scheme

We consider an approximation scheme using Haar wavelets for solving a class of infinite horizon optimal control problems (OCP's) of nonlinear interconnected large-scale dynamic systems. A computational method based on Haar wavelets in the time-domain is proposed for solving the optimal control problem. Haar wavelets integral operational matrix and direct collocation method are utilized to find ...

MAA*: A Heuristic Search Algorithm for Solving Decentralized POMDPs

We present multi-agent A* (MAA*), the first complete and optimal heuristic search algorithm for solving decentralized partiallyobservable Markov decision problems (DECPOMDPs) with finite horizon. The algorithm is suitable for computing optimal plans for a cooperative group of agents that operate in a stochastic environment such as multirobot coordination, network traffic control, or distributed...
